History of Pandua
Pandua came into limelight just after the establishment of Delhi Sultanate which laid the seeds of muslim rule in India. This history of Pandua dates back to 13th century. It is believed that a Pandu Raja stayed in Mahanad in Hooghly and in that region, cow slaughter was totally banned. Subsequently, Shahid Shah Safiuddin, the nephew of Feroz Shah Khilji (the Sultan of Delhi), settled in Pandua during the occasion of his son's Khatnah (circumciscion) ceremony. On that occasion, he ordered slaughter of cow for feast to serve his guests. This infuriated the Raja and he sacrificed the saint's son to Maa Kali. The Sultan went back to Delhi and informed the Firoz Shah Khilji about this terrible incident. To counter the Pandu Raja, the Sultan sent a large army under the leadership of Jaffar Khan Ghazi who attacked Pandua. Although, Shahid Shah Safiuddin was fatally wounded in this battle and later he was buried at the exact spot, where he fell during the battle, with extreme respect. A Dargah was established on that spot, which is near to Pandua GT Road. After sometime, a mosque was also built there.Demography of Pandua
